Education is fundamental to providing equal opportunity and keeping the United States competitive in the global economy. Yet, too many of our children fall through the cracks. Every nine seconds, another student will drop out of school. And 2,000 schools are responsible for 50% of the nation’s dropouts.

So, we were happy to join with several Bloganthropy Advisory Board members and other Bloganthropy members to find out how P&G Give Education is partnering with Communities in Schools to make a difference in the lives of our most at-risk students. We were joined by the spokesman, the famous recording artist and philanthropist, John Legend.

Susan Niebur, of the blog Toddler Planet, today was named the winner of the 2011 Bloganthropy Awards. The Bloganthropy Awards is a unique program that recognizes women bloggers who have made a difference by using social media effectively to support a good cause.

Bloganthropy is built on the idea that we can use our social media influence to amplify the good we do. By calling upon the strength of your online network, you send your message viral, inspiring others to give.

For the month of July, we are partnering with our sponsor P&G’s GIVE Education to honor another incredible Bloganthropy Blogger of the Month with an exceptional prize– $1,000 and an iPad2.

For the second year in a row, P&G is sponsoring the Bloganthropy Awards. Because of P&G’s support, the winner of the 2011 Bloganthropy Award will receive $2000, and four finalists will receive $500 each. P&G also has generously offered an additional $200 to all five honorees to help offset their travel costs to the Awards. We will be announcing the finalists for the prize very soon. In the meantime, we hope you’ll support P&G’s charitable efforts.

As a grassroots non-profit, we are proud to have partnered with Equal Exchange to honor the Bloganthropy Bloggers of the Month for January, February and March.

And as involved community volunteers, we are always on the look-out for a fundraiser that will motivate members, raise enough money to support our cause, and reflect our values.

Candace and I recently returned from the BlogHer Conference in New York. Thanks to the amazing generosity of Corolle Dolls, we were able to have a booth at the BlogHer conference!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to exhibit at BlogHer. During the conference, I spoke to hundreds of bloggers about the accomplishments of the five Bloganthropy Awards finalists, and we heard from bloggers about how they are using their influence to do good by supporting causes and charities they are passionate about on their blogs, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
